Blackpool International Airport has now served the perennially popular seaside resort of Blackpool for over a century - quite an achievement for any air facility. The complex boasts its own seaside location along Lancashire's Fylde coast, in the borough of the same name. Many of the 200,000-plus people who use this small airport each year arrive / depart during the peak summer tourism season. Mainly it is handy for locals flying out on package holidays, while inbound tourists are usually Brits, arriving by bus, train or car, rather than flying.

Jet2 flights to Tenerife and Alicante, as well as Aer Lingus flights to Dublin, are available throughout the year. However, Blackpool International Airport also offers seasonal flights to Belfast City, the Isle of Man, Jersey and the Spanish getaways of Mallorca, Murcia and Malaga.

This airport, now comfortably within the UK's 40 busiest list, underwent a major renovation of its car parks and single terminal in 2006. The terminal now includes a new departures lounge, additional check-in counters, and more places to eat and shop than before.

The thrilling rides at the Pleasure Beach and Sandcastle Waterworld stand just 5 km / 3 miles north-west of Blackpool International Airport, which is conveniently situated near the M55 motorway's ending point, at Squires Gate Lane (the A5230). Next-door you will find both the St. Annes Cricket Club and the St. Annes Old Links Golf Course.

Cars

The Pay to Park car park containing the airport's car hire companies allows motorists to park their vehicles at no cost for up to 15 days. The M55, Blackpool's main motorway, ends near the airport to become a link road to the A5230 at Squires Gate. The M6, the M65, the M61 and many other motorways all connect with the M55.

Taxis

A shuttle taxi service named Moondance Travel regularly drops off and picks up passengers at a signposted terminal collection point. This service runs according to arrival and departure times, and always allows plenty of time for check-in.

The town's main long-distance bus network is the National Express coach service. The designated Flyde and Blackpool routes used by the local Blackpool Transport Services buses are clearly indicated with bright colours, including the route to the airport.
