Blackpool Museums and Art Galleries

(Blackpool, Lancashire, England, UK)

Photo of Laurel and Hardy at Tussaud's WaxworksAs you would expect, museums in Blackpool are few and far between, with the main offerings being targeted at visiting tourists and containing no real exhibitions of historical significance. That said, the museums and art galleries located in the centre of the town are well worth visiting as part of a family day out and will be sure to bring lots of enjoyment and entertainment. The Doctor Who Museum, which celebrated the acclaimed sci-fi television series, with information about the history of the show and many of his most loved arch-enemies was briefly re-opened during the period 2004 to 2009 along the Central Promenade.

However, whether you are looking for waxworks or simply classical art works, Blackpool has plenty for everyone.

Home to more than 150 different waxworks, the Blackpool Louis Tussaud's Waxworks are well worth a visit, although many of the models lack the realism and finish of those at the more famous Madame Tussaud's in London. The waxworks features many themed exhibits, such as the Regal Room, Celeb City, Hollywood legends, Rock Factory and of course the gruesome models in the Horrors area, where many notorious murderers are remembered. Finish your trip with a visit to the Coronation Street cafe, where you will find many waxwork models from this acclaimed British soap opera.
